There are many facets in the ways I review and give feedback. One aspect I frequently use is that of color-coding, here is a greater explanation to my overall process!
After we’ve made contact and you’ve filled out the Google form, what happens next?
I’ll outline what you can expect when working on a project with me.
Once all your questions have been answered and we’ve agreed on pricing and word count, I’ll send a payment request via PayPal. (Payment plans are available—just reach out!)
After I receive both the payment and your document, I’ll begin reading your story.

Getting Your Feedback from Blair:
I use a color-coding system that I like to call “Red Light, Green Light.” The exact layout will vary depending on whether we’re working in Google Docs or Word/Pages.
Pages or Word Documents
This Approach is used when I am working with a Word/ Pages document.

Google Docs
Below is an example of how it appears in Google Docs. This method allows for greater collaboration between me and the author. While I prefer this approach, I’m flexible and happy to work with the format that suits you best.

Either way, the Approach is Essentially the Same
At the very end of your document, I’ll leave a personalized message. This will include a summary of the strengths in your work, as well as a few things to consider or watch out for moving forward. I usually use blue for this section—or sometimes the color of my hair, just for fun!
Next: Author Review and Editing
Now that I’ve finished reading through your story and left some comments — what’s next?
It’s your turn to read through my feedback. This stage can feel a bit overwhelming, and that’s completely normal. Many authors assume that a high number of comments means a lot of things need fixing, but don’t worry! As I mentioned earlier, I also highlight the strong areas in your story, not just the ones that need work.
My advice? Take a deep breath, and read at your own pace.
If you start to feel overwhelmed, take a break or feel free to reach out. I’m here to support you throughout this process!
Before you dive into editing, choose your favorite color to type in. (I usually go with blue or whatever matches my hair at the time!) Once you’ve picked your color (and why is it purple? 😘 ) please make all comments and edits in that color, so I can easily find them during the revision stage.
Rewrites and Line Editing.
Please keep in mind, when editing, that I only need to proofread the areas that I’ve made suggestions on beforehand. If an area needs a full rewrite that is understandable, but within reason. Please limit rewriting to a few paragraphs or up to a couple of pages for review.
During revisions, please do not send in a fully rewritten story to read in full. If you are in the process of a full story rewrite, then I will need to be re-hired with your new word count. To avoid this, please stick to editing and submitting the areas that I specifically mention in my feedback.
If you find yourself confused about if a rewritten area exceeds the limits as mentioned above (a few paragraphs and up to a couple of pages), then I highly encourage you to reach out for confirmation.
Then the Revisions
We’ve made it to the revision stage! 🎉
This is where I review your edits to ensure that my suggestions were understood and applied correctly, and that the story remains free from stereotypes along with all the other elements I focus on.
During this stage, you’ll likely see more green highlights and plenty of 😍 or 👍🏼 reactions from me. I’ll also include any final recommendations, if needed.
Typically, only one round of revisions is needed. However, I’m committed to supporting my clients until they feel fully satisfied with their Deaf representation. If you feel a second revision is needed, just let me know. I’m here for you!
And we’re done!
This might be the most important part!
By the time I’ve finished reading and getting to know your characters, I’ve likely become your biggest fan. Sorry, no take-backs!
Please keep me updated on your publishing journey so I can buy your books and proudly add them to my shelf! I’ll also give you a shoutout on my social media and feature your name and book cover on this website.
Feel free to send me your social media handles and website links, I’d love to follow and support you beyond this project.
And that’s it!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here for you! Click here for Contact page.
